Place names which bring to mind the horrors of trench warfare with soldiers fighting waist deep in mud and water for a few yards of No-Man's land. The area is steeped in history with many famous landmarks including Tyne Cot cemetery, Ypres Cloth Hall and the Menin Gate.
A land of battles which tore the ground to pieces during the 1916 offensive. The opening day of the British 'big push' still ranks as the greatest casualty list in the history of the Army. The scars are still evident in the landscape and the great monument at Thiepval dominates the battlefield tour.
Operation Market Garden was an ingenious plan to capture the Rhine bridges and cut off the retreating German forces. Although unsuccessful, the battle cemented the British paratrooper's place in military legend as a formidable fighting force.
The miracle in which the British Expeditionary Force was rescued by the Royal Navy and the flotilla of privately owned 'Little Ships' whilst the nation held its breath in our darkest hour.
The largest seaborne landing in history where Allied soldiers launched the invasion of France to reclaim the continent from the years of domination and exploitation by Nazi Germany.

Our tours often coincide with both public and private commemorations and we are delighted by our good fortune when we join in the event.
On this occasion, we were able to strike up a conversation with the Frontier Pipe and Drum band, who were honouring Sergeant Jimmy Speirs of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders at Dochy Farm Cemetery in Langemark-Poelcapelle.
Our own party were also there to pay homage to Jimmy, the winning goalscorer for Bradford City in the 1911 FA Cup Final.
